Fitting in and adding value to our service
As you would expect we offer a full range of bookkeeping services, what Accountant doesn’t. Sometimes we are given a cardboard box and a promise everything has been sent. On other occasions, we are required, on-site, to carry out full bookkeeping services in the absence of any full time staff.
Either way, one of our key objectives will always be to try and add value over and above the obvious. For example, by looking at your suppliers, we may be able to recommend alternative, and more cost effective options.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you advise on ways to reduce the time it takes to do our books?
Yes, we can look at your existing Bookkeeping system / approach and confirm if it can be made more efficient. We will also look at your financial information requirements, to confirm if your current system will keep pace with your demands. If your systems are a little antiquated, then we may recommend alternative solutions, such as QuickBooks, Xero or any other suitable system.
How much time each week should I spend on my books?
This depends on your volume of activity, but, typically, we recommend 1 to 2 hours. If you are spending too much time on your Books, then we can look at ways of speeding the process up. We would rather you focus on running your business, rather than spending too much time on Bookkeeping tasks.
How do you charge for your Bookkeeping services?
On an hourly basis or per 100 invoices and receipts. We also have various Pricing Plans, suitable for most businesses and these include built-in Bookkeeping facilities.
What sort of Books should I keep?
If you intend using a computerised system, then, typically, these handle all your transactional processing. If you envisage using a manual system in the meantime, taking into consideration Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements, then keep separate books for your Sales, Debtors, Purchases, Creditors, Cash Book (for your bank transactions) and Petty Cash. Make sure to store all your documentation in a safe place.
What type of Bookkeeping training do you offer?
We offer 2 half-days training on how to use QuickBooks Online. If you have a manual system and require training for a new staff member, then we can create a training plan for this, also.
What competency level do I need for keeping books?
You will need at least a basic, technical knowledge in bookkeeping. This is one of the subjects we cover at our Free consultation. Computerised systems can greatly simplify the bookkeeping process, due to their process driven approach.
Is it better to keep my books online?
Yes, simply because of accuracy, flexibility, and for HMRC’s Making Tax Digital (MTD) reasons. It could also help reduce your accountancy costs.
Can HMRC penalise me for not keeping the correct books?
If you send in a document that contains a mistake, HMRC will charge a penalty if the error is: because of a lack of ‘reasonable care’; deliberate – such as intentionally sending incorrect information; deliberate and concealed – for example, intentionally sending incorrect information and taking steps to hide the error
The level of the penalty is linked to the reason why the error occurred. The more serious the reason, the higher the maximum penalty can be. HMRC can reduce the penalty if you help them to put things right.
Do you help with migrating from a manual to computerised system?
Yes, we do. Typically, this includes: helping to install the new computerised system onto your business PC; finalising the data in your current system; enabling the balances to be carried over to the new system; then finally, run the two systems in parallel for a pre-defined period, to confirm the new system is working, as expected.
Can you check the work of my previous Bookkeeper?
Yes, we can, and it would be prudent to do so, the earlier the better.
